Win an autographed Slingbox Classic

You can still win a Slingbox Classic autographed by Tony La Russa. I posted about the giveaway back on the 9th, but it seems Sling still has some of the 75 autographed boxes to give away as Dave Zatz posted about it again today. (If you didn’t know, Dave works for Sling Media. So I’d presume he wouldn’t be posting if they were all claimed.)

It is easy to win – the first 75 people to submit a video, win. It is that simple. So fire up your video camera or web cam and claim your Slingbox. See the official guidelines for details.

And the new winner is…

Steve Pearl, come on down!

Well, unfortunately Jonkempato never responded to my emails or posts here to claim his, or her, prize. So I ran another drawing and Steve Pearl is the new winner of the SlingPlayer Mobile license.

Bad luck for Jonkempato, but good luck for Steve.

(In the interests of full disclosure, I know Steve from way, way, way, way back on the rec.arts.anime.* newsgroups. The drawing was still random, same Perl script.)

The media is not so happy with Stop||Watch results

Just a few days ago, TiVo released some public results from their Stop||Watch service. Those results have caused a bit of a furor in the industry press. The most alarmed article seems to be from Media Life Magazine, which seems to take TiVo’s news as dire.

Ratings just released by TiVo, the DVR-maker, suggest the falloff in ratings from program to commercial is much steeper. TiVo viewers are not only fast-forwarding through recorded commercials. They’re also simply turning off commercials when watching shows live in their original broadcast.

These dismaying findings come from TiVo’s StopWatch service, which tracks second-by-second viewing on 20,000 of its DVRs.

A profile of Sling Media’s Jason Hirschhorn

WorldScreen.com has a profile of Jason Hirschhorn, President of Sling Media Entertainment Group. Jason is tasked with developing ‘entertainment experiences’ for the Sling Media products, and the first product from the Entertainment Group is the previously announced ‘Clip+Sling’ application, due later this year.

Beyond licensing content for Clip+Sling, Hirschhorn says that the company is also seeking out completed titles for a new video destination on the Internet. Ultimately, he says, the company wants to be “a bridge between all screens,” whether it’s a PC, television set or a mobile phone. “We are innovators. We love television, we love entertainment. The idea that you have to go home to watch your TV is an old notion. We do everything we do for the audience that loves their Slingbox. They really dictate what we do. Users want access to their video content wherever they are, whenever, however they want it. We want to be one of the systems that are leading that way.”

Sounds like a nice vision to me.

July 4th Series 3 Lite leak images

Series3 Lite small image
Sorry I didn’t get to this last night, but following up on the first picture leak and yesterday’s additional leak, these are screen captures and images I grabbed back on July 4th when I first found the leak.

Some of these images are a little bit large, just so you know. The above image is a small image of the unit I found on Amazon, this is a larger version, also from Amazon. And this is a very large version of the image. I’m only linking that one because of the size. I got that from Amazon’s ‘zoom’ viewer. It was actually six images tiled that I assembled into one image. I think it looks pretty good.

These two screens are captured from Amazon. I would take everything on all of these screens with a grain of salt. Clearly this information went up before it was supposed to, and has since been pulled – I mean, the first available date is September 14, 2004screen one, screen two.

And these are shots from other sites that had pages up: EdByDesign, SPME, AmbientWeather, bNotions, Epinions, MayberryLane, and TelevisionSteals.

Not really any new information compared to what’s already been posted, but I thought capturing these for posterity would be nice. You can still find many of these pages in Google’s Cache. Just a little tease while we all wait for the official word from TiVo on the TCD652160.
