TiVoCast Adds Systm – Soon Wine Library TV?

The Revision3 train continues to roll on TiVoCast. Today they’ve added Systm:

Systm is the Do It Yourself show designed for the common geek who wants to quickly and easily learn how to dive into the latest and hottest tech projects. We will help you avoid pitfalls and get your project up and running fast.

Subscribe online or on your TiVo via Find Programs & Downloads -> Download TV, Movies, & Web Video -> Browse Other Videos -> All -> Systm

And here’s an odd one. On the TiVoCast web page Wine Library TV is listed, not to be confused with Wine Library Reserve. But if you try to follow the link for Wine Library TV you get a 500 Server Error (at least you do as I write this). And it isn’t in the list on the TiVo itself. So perhaps someone jumped the gun and put it on the online listing too early, but it will be coming soon? That it is a mistake is reinforced by it being out of order in the list – the list is alphabetical, but it is at the bottom under Zipidee Action Sports.

In any case, keep them coming TiVo!

TiVo Apparently Doing Well In Australia

An article in today’s Australian IT which is mainly about high HDTV sales from retailer Harvey Norman and the boost from the Olympics contains a little tidbit about TiVo in Australia which has to put a smile on the faces of TiVo and Seven Network.

[Gerry Harvey] also revealed the TiVo digital recording device brought to Australia by the Seven Network had been a surprise hit.

Seven launched TiVo as a direct free-to-air counter to Foxtel’s IQ device and gave Harvey Norman exclusive rights to sell the product for the first six weeks.

Seven is supporting the TiVo with ads in high rotation during the Olympics.

“We have sold more than three times what I would have expected — and again, I think the Olympics have been a factor.

“I didn’t think TiVo would be a big seller. Sometimes you just never know.”

Selling more than three times that was expected sounds like good news to me. I’m looking forward to seeing some hard sales figures for TiVo in Australia eventually. I’ve seen various mentions in journals and blogs and the general reception from those buying them has been positive. The DVB-T platform seems to be working well, which gives some hope that TiVo will re-enter the UK market (where DVB-T is also used, commonly called Freeview) and also additional world markets where DVB-T is used.

TiVoCast Adds Diggnation, The Totally Rad Show, And Wine Library Reserve

It looks like Internet Superstar and Tekzilla were just the vanguard of the new Revision3 invasion. TiVo has just added three more Revision3 shows to TiVoCast:

Diggnation:

Diggnation is a weekly tech/web culture show based on the top digg.com social bookmarking news stories.

Subscribe online or on your TiVo via Find Programs & Downloads -> Download TV, Movies, & Web Video -> Browse Other Videos -> All -> Diggnation

The Totally Rad Show:

The Totally Rad Show is the summer blockbuster of geek news shows. Every week, hosts Alex Albrecht, Dan Trachtenberg, and Jeff Cannata rip into the world of movies, video games, tv, comics, and more and pull out what’s rad.

Subscribe online or on your TiVo via Find Programs & Downloads -> Download TV, Movies, & Web Video -> Browse Other Videos -> All -> The Totally Rad Show

Wine Library Reserve:

Gary Vaynerchuk, not your typical wine expert, describes what he tastes on the Internet’s most passionate wine program. Wine Library Reserve delivers the info on the wines of Wine Library TV in 5 minutes or less!

Subscribe online or on your TiVo via Find Programs & Downloads -> Download TV, Movies, & Web Video -> Browse Other Videos -> All -> Wine Library Reserve

Wine isn’t my thing, at all really, but I’ll be jumping on the first two. I hope they add the rest of the Revision3 lineup soon. Especially as I noticed The GigaOm Show was dropped from TiVo Web Video, where I’d been subscribed to it. (Fortunately it is on hiatus currently anyway.) Let’s get some popSiren in TiVoCast soon!

EchoStar Signs tru2way Host Device License Agreement With CableLabs

EchoStar Monday announced that they’ve signed a tru2way Host Device License Agreement with CableLabs, which allows them to implement devices using CableCARD and OCAP/tru2way. This may seem odd at first, since EchoStar is often conflated with DISH Network, but remember that EchoStar and DISH split into separate companies, and EchoStar is pursuing non-satellite markets such as OTA with the DTVPal (ironically being marketed by DISH Network) and cable with devices like the SlingModem, from EchoStar subsidiary Sling Media.

This license does open up new possibilities. A CableCARD-enabled Slingbox, perhaps. EchoStar could take their DVR platform, as used by DISH Network, and re-purpose it as a CableCARD DVR for cable MSOs and/or consumers. Something like the recently announced 722s DVR with built-in Slingbox & SlingCatcher features, only for cable, could be quite an interesting product. (Perhaps waiting for the final act in the DVR patent lawsuit with TiVo to remove any uncertainty for customers.) They could produce a whole new cable STB unrelated to any of their current platforms. It will certainly be interesting to see what they do with the license, I’m sure they didn’t sign it just for laughs.

Their press release is below:
