There’s an interesting article in The New York Times today. Hotel chains have been turning to consumer electronics and computers to help draw in and satisfy increasingly tech savvy guests. Gadgets and gizmos are increasingly present in rooms, lobbies, and lounges in a growing number of hotels. Sheraton has teamed with Microsoft for their Link@Sheraton lounges where guests can perform tasks such as checking email and printing out boarding passes. Westin is placing the Nintendo Wii, with games like Wii Fit, in some of their fitness centers. Gansevoort South in Miami Beach, part of the Gansevoort Hotel Group, is working with Sony to bring Sony computers, PS3s, ebook readers, and more to a new lounge.
There’s some more interesting news in this area that I’ll be able to share soon…

German technology company Singulus, which produces Blu-ray manufacturing equipment, predicts that 50% of US households will have purchased a Blu-ray player by 2010, while it will take until 2011 or 2012 to hit the same levels in Germany. They also expect the market to peak in the next 5-6 years.
Blu-ray sales have been increasing as player prices have dropped. As we’ve seen there have been several recent sales and promotions which have brought full-featured BD-Live players from first-tier brands into the $200 price range, which is a key price point. And prices are widely expected to drop further going into the holiday season, especially with Black Friday specials. And prices are expected to drop even more in 2009 as Chinese manufacturers enter the market. The trouble with the economy is also driving prices down as vendors drop them to encourage sales in a depressed market.
