TiVo should have a fix for TiVo HD macroblocking in a couple of weeks
TiVoPony posted another update at TiVoCommunity.com this afternoon:
TiVo HD - Information for SA CableCard Users
Hey guys, another update regarding the progress being made.
We’ve identified a potential fix for the issues some of you have experienced with Scientific Atlanta CableCards, and it’s testing very well in beta. It’s a change that needs to soak in testing for a bit yet (to set expectations, we’re looking at minimum a couple of weeks). So far, so good though.
Again, it appears that a software update will resolve the issue. I’ll keep you posted when the new update is ready.
Thanks again,
Pony
I’m confident that TiVo will get this fixed, based on history. They’ve always done a good job at fixing software issues and they’ve had some glitches with new product launches in the past, which they’ve made good in updates. The only thing I think they could do is to extend the 30-day return window for HD users as this will put many users past their 30-day window before the fix is out. And I can certainly understand that making some users uneasy. It would also be nice to see TiVo offer a credit for people who experienced the problem, due to the diminished service.
But the main issue is getting the issue fixed, and it looks like they’re making good progress.

The TiVo CSRs are indeed doing just that–extending the “30 day guarantee” to 60 days. All you have to do is mention it as a reason you want to cancel, and they’ll offer it. It seems TiVo is making good on trying to retain HD users, especially this is such a critical problem for many SA CC users.

Here’s what I don’t get, are we 100% sure the problem is with SA CableCards?
For example, I’ve read posts elsewhere from people w/ Motorola cards having the issue. Plus, some people (myself included) will see the pixelation on the Tivo menu. So while I could see the CableCard code affecting my ability to watch digital channels, why would it affect their Watch Now menu.
In any case, I hope they fix it soon.

if tivo is extending the 30 day return policy for those effected with issues, what about those of us who bought their HD’s from vendors other than tivo?

I am experiencing this problem with a Motorola M-Card. This is very frustrating. And I bought my HD from Best Buy…not sure whether TiVo can extend the return window. If not, I think I’ll have no choice but to return…
