Sellout.Woot! – Keurig Elite B40 Gourmet Single-Cup Home Brewing System Just $69.99

Keurig Elite B40 Gourmet Single-Cup Home_Brewing System Today’s Sellout.Woot! deal is one I personally wholeheartedly endorse, a refurbished Keurig Elite B40 Gourmet Single-Cup Home Brewing System for only $69.99 + $5 S&H.

I own a conventional coffee pot, but I really never use it. I don’t drink enough coffee to warrant brewing even a partial pot, so it is just a waste and more hassle than it is worth. I don’t even bother keeping coffee grounds in the house anymore. Indeed, I prefer tea most of the time, coffee some of the time, and a variety instead of the same thing every time. Last xmas my fiancee gave me a Keurig MINI Plus Brewing System, which is the simplest of their brewers, to try it out. I love it. It is simple and easy to use. No mess, no clean up, a fresh cup of coffee or tea in a couple of minutes, and I keep a variety of K-Cups on hand so I can pick and choose what I want at any point in time. And no wasted coffee. I like it so much that I put its big brother, the Keurig B-70, on our wedding registry.

The Keurig Elite B-40 being offered by Sellout.Woot! is a mid-range model which Amazon sells new for $129.99, so this is a $60 savings – nearly half off. $69.99 is less than the basic Keurig MINI Plus that I have sells for. There is a huge variety of K-Cups – coffee, tea, herbal tea, hot cider, cocoa, even ‘brew over ice’ coffees and teas for warm weather.

It isn’t a DVR or a smartphone, but it is one gizmo I personally recommend. ;-)

“I Love TiVo” – A Blast From the Past, A TiVo Infomercial from 2005

TiVo Logo I just stumbled onto a few videos on YouTube that I thought I’d share. It looks like last month one of TiVo’s old marketing partners, Acquirgy, posted an informercial they produced for TiVo several years ago, in three parts. From some of the dates visible on the TVs in the video and the copyright date it looks like this was made in 2005, which fits with the ‘nightlight’ TiVo Series2 being marketed. It was before the Series2DT & Series3 came out in 2006. We’ve really come a long way from this to the TiVo Premiere Elite that’s about to launch. For starters the TiVo Dude has learned to speak during the intervening years.

Amazon Inks Deal to Stream FOX Content, Netflix Needs to Watch Their Back

Amazon Logo There’s an interesting announcement on the Amazon front page today. They’ve inked a deal with FOX to include their content in the ‘free’ Prime instant video streaming service. Amazon Prime has traditionally been a $79 year service which gives members free two-day shipping on all Amazon purchases, which is worth it if you buy a lot from Amazon. (I’m been a Prime member for a long time now.) A while back they sweetened the deal by offering Prime members free video streaming for no additional cost. For the equivalent of about $6.58 a month, if they keep expanding the lineup of content like this Netflix had better start watching their back.

I took a screencap of the notice, but the meat is this:

Dear Customer,

I have big news for Amazon Prime members – we’ve just signed a deal with FOX to add a broad selection of movies and TV shows to our unlimited instant streaming service later this fall. The new additions from the FOX library include 24, Arrested Development, The X-Files, Ally McBeal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and – available on digital video for the first time – The Wonder Years. We now have deals with CBS, NBCUniversal, Sony, and Warner Bros, and adding FOX will bring the total to more than 11,000 movies and TV shows available for unlimited instant streaming.

Since launching earlier this year, we have now doubled the number of titles available in Prime instant videos, and there’s still more to come. Prime membership remains $79 a year, and of course features our unlimited free two-day shipping on millions of products. Prime is one of the best values anywhere.

Prime instant videos can be played on more than 300 HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes.

Right now there are 2,940 entries available for Amazon Prime streaming, but a lot of those are actually complete seasons of TV series, so the number of individual items is much higher. The Tech of the Hub Blog did a comparison of streaming services in August, looking at Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, iTunes, Netflix, and Vudu. Netflix still has the content edge in numbers, but all content is not created equal and adding popular content gives a service more draw.

Amazon Instant Video Compatible DVRs I do have a minor disappointment with this announcement, though it isn’t a new issue. The link in the announcement to“more than 300 HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes” in the announcement takes you to the Amazon Instant Video TVs and Devices page. On that page one of the entries is Compatible Digital Video Recorders – which are all TiVos, of course. But TiVo does not support Amazon streaming, only Amazon Instant Video downloads. So you cannot take advantage of the free Prime streams on TiVo, at least not yet. TiVo has said they’re working on an updated client to add streaming support, but we don’t have any word on when we might get that, and if it will be Premiere-only or if it will update older units as well. I hope no one is misled into thinking they’ll be able to access the stream from their TiVo today.

The screen capture of the announcement is below:

Kids.Woot! – K’Nex Hot Shot! Video Coaster Just $49.99

KNex Hot Shot! Video Coaster I loved toys like this as a kid… OK, so I’m 40 and I still kind of like toys like this. I started out with Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, and the like, and moved up to Girders and Panels, Erector, and, of course, Lego Blocks. I had some Capsela too. But K’nex didn’t hit the market until later.

This K’Nex Hot Shot! Video Coaster looks pretty cool, and a good deal at $49.99 + $5 S&H. You… I mean the child you give this to, can build a roller coaster with a motorized chain lift so you can run the cars around on their own. But through the miracle of modern technology you get to experience riding your creation because of the cars is a miniature digital video camera! That’s definitely something we didn’t have when I was a kid. (Of course the Columbia House Music Club was still offering 8-Track and Reel-to-Reel along with cassette and LP when I first joined. Look all of that up, kids.)

It’s not high-def, the resolution is just 320×240, but still, how cool is that? You can record 15 seconds on the build in 16MB of storage or add a 2GB microSD card for longer recordings. Video is transferred to your PC via USB.

Amazon sells this new for $79.97, and MSRP is $99.99, so this looks like a good deal.
