A quick update

Memo to self, eat breakfast before going to the show… I’ve been in the TiVo booth for ~6 hours talking to people, and I haven’t had food or drink yet today, I need to correct that soon. Anyway, I have a bunch of photos and info to post, which I’ll do a little later. I need to evacuate the TiVo booth for a private reception they’re doing, but I just wanted to tease and say that the Comcast TiVo software looks *very* nice indeed. And I played with the Roxio Toast software and it looks pretty solid too. Speaking of that – FatWallet.com has some discounts. You can get Toast for $51.14 shipped, after rebate – so about half price.

OK – food and drink and I’ll be uploading my photos and posting later.

Sony name-drops TiVo in their PS3 press release

In a press release that is primarily about the PS3 selling one million units, selling at a faster pace than the PS2 or XBox 360 did at launch, was this:

Consumer demand for the PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable), the company’s popular handheld entertainment system, also remained strong this past year. New software releases continued PSP’s momentum in offering console-quality gaming on-the-go, from key franchises such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 to award-winning original IP such as LocoRoco(TM). SCEA also drove interest in the PSP system via expanded entertainment capabilities, including TiVoToGo(TM), which enables PSP owners to watch television programming transferred from their TiVo wherever, whenever; support for video podcasts broadcasted through Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds; and a Remote Play feature for streaming media content (music, videos and photos) from a PS3 to a PSP.

That’s a little unusual for Sony, to name drop other brand names.

COMCAST AND TIVO DEMONSTRATE INTEGRATED DVR SERVICE AT CES

Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA, CMCSK), the nation’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, and TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of and leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), are demonstrating a new TiVo® service for Comcast DVRs at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The companies began trialing the TiVo service for Comcast DVRs in late 2006.

I’ll definitely be checking this out at their booth. The press release doesn’t talk about network features, just that the platform combines the TiVo interface, HD recording, and Comcast’s OnDemand services, and that it will be deployed to boxes in the field without a technician’s visit.

TIVO SIGNS ON MUSIC CHOICE TO DELIVER BROADBAND VIDEO CONTENT FOR TV

TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of and leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), today announced that it has signed Music Choice, the country’s leader in music-related content, to deliver its wide-ranging catalog of music videos and its original programming via broadband to the television through the TiVoCast service. The service will be available later this year to TiVo® subscribers with broadband connected TiVo Series2â„¢ and Series3â„¢ boxes.

So music videos on demand – no, it isn’t feature films or TV shows, but it is definitely another step in the right direction for TiVoCast. And I think this will probably be very popular with the user community.
