Technology Evangelist interviewed Jim Denney, VP for Product Marketing at TiVo, at CES and the video is on their site. It is a really good interview and he talks about the future of the Series3, indicating MRV & TTG will come later this year, among other things like TiVoCast, TiVo Desktop 2.4, etc. It is about 16 minutes long, and worth watching.
Since it is hosted through Brightcove, it would be nice to see it added to the content available on TiVo. 
Just before CES the Slingbox showed up for sale on TiVo.com. During CES I had a mildly embarrassing moment when I told this to someone in the Sling Media booth and we checked the site – and the Slingbox wasn’t there. It looks like TiVo has pulled the Slingbox off their store, it used to be under Tivo gear -> TiVo accessories. I wonder what happened, I think it was the perfect companion for TiVo.
The other change I’ve just noticed – the Series2 TiVo is no longer available new. Only the Series2DT and Series3 are being offered today. You can still find refurbished Series2 units, and Humax DRT400s, under the Web Specials. This isn’t surprising, the S2 has been expected to be phased out once existing stocks were sold, replaced by the S2DT.

If you’re seen recent reports, you know that the keys for some HD-DVD discs have been recovered, allowing uses to circumvent AACS and rip the contents. Now movies, like Serenity, are starting to pop up on BitTorrent.
Part of the announcement for Roxio Toast 8 for the Mac last week was a TiVo menu theme to use when burning DVDs, and it is one of the things I saw at TiVo’s booth and posted a photo of. But I’ve just started seeing reports from people who purchased Toast 8, saying that the theme was missing. Well, Dave Zatz beat me too it. The TiVo theme is not part of the standard distribution, to keep the size down. However, it is available as a free download – the instructions are here. And the themes are standard Photoshop PSD files, so you can get creative.
Well, it has only taken a month, but they claim they have the problem fixed as of this evening. We’ll see – leave a comment if you have a DirecTiVo and you see it is fixed – or not.
