Several site updates

I also updated the link list for the community with the support links.

People have asked if there is anything they can do to support the site and community in the past. Aside from TiVo Rewards referrals, I’ve signed TiVoLovers.com up as an Amazon affiliate so now each time you buy something from Amazon – including from Unbox on your TiVo – you can support the site, with no cost to you.

TIVO LAUNCHES REMOTE SCHEDULING WITH VERIZON WIRELESS

TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), and Verizon Wireless, owner of the nation’s most reliable wireless network, today announced the availability of TiVo® Mobile scheduling, a downloadable application available only through Verizon Wireless. TiVo Mobile scheduling allows subscribers to purchase the mobile service through select Verizon Wireless handsets and schedule recordings on their Series2â„¢ or Series3â„¢ TiVo boxes.

Honestly, this doesn’t impress me. One carrier, and a limited number of phones at that – and a fee. I think it would’ve been much better to focus on making the online scheduling site work with any web-capable phone, like Google does on their main page, Gmail, etc. The next step would be WAP support for even more phones. If you’re going to have a Java Midlet, release it openly for users to use on J2ME enabled phones.

For me this is more about marketing tie-ups with Verizon than functionality. Fine for what it is, but it doesn’t impress this geek that much, sorry. Even if I still used Verizon (Several years ago, after their sales reps repeatedly lied to my face, I dumped them and switched to AT&T Wireless… I mean Cingular… no, I mean ‘The New AT&T’), I wouldn’t pay to use this service. I think the same resources would’ve been better used getting scheduling working nicely for all mobile devices, but maybe they see the marketing value as being worth developing something for one corner of the market.

TIVO TEAMS UP WITH JOHN SALLEY TO GIVE HOOP FANS THE “REEL” INSIGHT ON MARCH MADNESS

With TiVo, John Salley is getting a whole lot more than just the NCAA basketball tournament this March. Now, with the brand-new Amazon Unbox on TiVo service feature, downloading his favorite movies and sports classics directly to his TiVo box is a slam dunk. Inspired by the movies, Salley developed his picks for the Elite Eight and paired each team with a different movie that he believes embodies the spirit of that team.

TiVo – I didn’t get email notification of this, or the next, press release – which I normally do (I signed up on the website to receive notices of new releases). Something wrong?

Series1 DST fix – better late than never

TiVo didn’t initially have a real fix for the S1, leaving users to modify their manual recordings, but now they’ve released one. Users who want the fix need to request it here.

Picked up from PVR Wire @ TV Squad.
