mocoNews.net interviews Sling Media’s CEO, Blake Krikorian

mocoNews.net sat with with Blake Krikorian, CEO of Sling Media, at the recent CTIA show for an audio interview. They’ve posted the MP3 file here. One of the little tidbits is that Sling Media finally owns Sling.com, and they’re using it as a placeholder for Clip+Sling right now. Some other interesting mentions are J2ME when he’s talking about platforms, clipping content on mobile devices and not just the PC, referring to smartphones like the Nokia N95 as a mobile DVR (in the future), and more – give it a listen.

More site work

I just did a marathon session and cleaned up the markup for all of 2005 and 2006. That completes the clean up work for the pre-WordPress posts that were imported, and all the mark up and links should be fixed now. If you stumble over something I missed, let me know.

I suppose I probably should’ve taken a break at some point for food… or drink… or sleep…

Pardon me, I have some things to take care of offline. :-)

Shiny and new – site updates

I’ve just upgraded the site to WordPress 2.3.1, the latest and greatest. I’ve also updated the plugins I use, and I installed several new plugins in the process. Such as the one I just linked which lists the plugins that are installed. You can also get some basic stats.

But the more useful additions you may notice are the ‘Print This Post’ or ‘Print This Page’ links, which open a printer friendly version of the post/page for better printing. I’ve also added reCAPTCHA to help control the comment spam. As this site gains readership it, unfortunately, also comes up on the radar for more spammers, so the volume of (attempted) spam has been increasing.

I finally added a contact page so you can email me directly. That’s linked in the top, bottom, and left navigation so it should be easy to find for new users. I’ve been meaning to do that for a while.

This version of WordPress also adds tagging support, so I’ll be trying that on for size.

Blu-ray.com covers the Blu-ray Festival

Earlier this week the Blu-ray camp held a ‘Blu-ray Festival’ press event, and Blu-ray.com was in attendance. They’ve started posting their write-ups of the events.

An Introduction, the BDA Breakfast, Fox Studios, and an exclusive interview with Pixar’s Brad Bird (Director of The Incredibles and Ratatouille.) It sounds like there is more to come.

Kmart is not going HD DVD exclusive

After a number of reports appeared in the press over the past couple of days that Kmart would be selling Toshiba HD DVD players exclusively, and not carrying any Blu-ray players – aside from the PS3 – Kmart was moved to respond. They’ve issued a terse press release refuting these reports and stating that they intend to support both platforms. It sounds like they may be a big miffed with Toshiba, whom they name as the source of the earlier reports.

The release:
