Sellout.Woot! – Roku HD Wireless Streaming Player Just $49.99

Roku HD N1000/N1100 & 2000C Today Sellout.Woot! is offering your a choice. The deal is a new Roku HD Wireless Streaming Player for only $49.99 + $5 S&H. The choice is that you can select the first generation Roku HD, the N1000/N1100 model, or the second generation Roku HD, the 2000C model. They use the same chip internally and run the same software, but differ in design and the ports available.

By way of comparison I’ve included the current Roku LT in the table below, as it lists for the same $49.99 price. Both of the Roku HD models give you wired Ethernet, which is better than WiFi for streaming video and which the LT lacks. The N1000/N1100 also give you Component Video, S-Video, and Optical Audio output, which are absent on the other two units.

Side by Side Comparison:
Model:N1000 / N11002000CRoku LT
Resolution:720p720p720p
HDMI:YesYesYes
Composite Video:YesYesYes
S-Video:YesNoNo
Component Video:YesNoNo
Optical Audio:YesNoNo
Ethernet:YesYesNo
Wi-Fi:b/gb/gb/g/n
Dimensions:5″ x 5″ x 1.75″5″ x 5″ x 1″3.3″ x 3.3″ x 0.9″

Personally, of these three I’d opt for the original Roku HD N1000/N1100. Sure it is a little bit bigger, but it offers more flexibility for connections. If you’re positive you don’t need the extra outputs, the 2000C is perfect for wired Ethernet. Checkout the deal before it is gone.

EDIT: If you want to go a little bit upmarket, Amazon’s Gold Box Deal of the Day is the Roku 2 XS for $79.99 – 20% off the $99.99 MSRP.

Airbus A380 Latin America Tour

AIRBUS Logo Airbus is taking the A380 on a world tour, as a marketing effort to local airlines – for the A380 and their entire lineup. That tour is currently on its Latin American leg, with the first stop in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Airbus has released a few videos in conjunction with this tour.

I’ve said it before, but Airbus needs a better video production team. Their videos are so damn dull. The second video, the one with the kid, was kind of cute and it gives us a look at some of the different options for airlines. But how about even some text overlays telling us what we’re looking at? And better music guys, that flight operations video made me feel like I was in an elevator – in the 70s. Boeing’s videos are so much better than this, generally.

Apple 8GB iPod Touch Today’s Woot! deal is a refurbished current generation Apple 8GB iPod Touch with Retina Display & FaceTime for just $149.99 + $5 S&H. Full MSRP for a new unit is $199.00, and even Amazon sells them for $187.99. Do I really need to describe the iPod Touch to anyone reading this? If you don’t know what it is and what it does, you’re probably not someone interested in this deal in the first place. But if you are interested in a new iPod Touch, your deal awaits.

TiVo’s Android App Gets A Minor Update

TiVo Android App 8 After posting Wednesday about TiVo’s update to their iOS Apps and how they expected to release the Android tablet app in ‘spring’ and bring the new features to all Android apps in ‘summer’, I was a bit surprised to find my Galaxy Nexus prompting me to update the TiVo app on Thursday. But the 1.5.1.35(8) update doesn’t bring any major new functionality, just minor incremental updates. And how about that convoluted version number? TiVo must have some ex-Cisco IOS developers handling their numbering scheme. (If you don’t get the reference, don’t worry. If you did – greetings my fellow networking geek!)

What’s in this version:
1. Resolution Support for WXGA (1280×800), 1024×600 and 960×540
2. Added Exit Button on Menu option
3. Performance and Stability Fixes

The Exit Button, or lack thereof, is something a number of people had complained about so that should make some of you happy. And if you had issues with the app before, it might be worth trying again to see if the fixes resolved your issue.

Now, TiVo, while we’re waiting for the official tablet version of the app, why don’t you let us use this on our tablets? You have WXGA support now! 1280×800 is the resolution of nearly all Android tablets. And we know it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich already, as it works on ICS phones. It would be better than nothing. Then later you can release one Android app that works on both tablets and phones, as developers should. (I’m looking at you Sling. You and your separate $30 apps for tablets and phones.)
