Joining Sorority Forever in the TheWB.com’s TiVoCast lineup are two new shows. Well, actually, I believe one has been in there for a little while and I just managed not to notice it until now. That program is Blue Water High, offering complete episodes of the Australian drama which Wikipedia describes as:
Blue Water High is an Australian television drama series, broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on ABC1 in Australia and on various channels in many other countries. Each season follows the lives of a young group of students at Solar Blue, a high-performance surf academy where several lucky 16-year-olds are selected for a 12-month-long surfing program on Sydney’s northern beaches.

The other show, which does seem to be a new addition, is High Drama. This is a short form program described as:
The students at Barnstable High School are known for showcasing the best high school productions in the country. Follow the cast and crew as they put on their best show yet: The Wizard of Oz.

And while I’m on the subject of TheWB.com, back when I caught the addition of Sorority Forever I said “Yeah, so I’ll be giving that a miss.” Well, I lied. I actually intended to ‘give it a miss’, but I’d added a Season Pass to it in the process of checking it out for that post, and I didn’t kill it. So episodes built up and I watched them. It is glossy and just about as shallow as I expected, but not quite bad enough that I’ve killed the SP. So yeah, I’m still watching it, though if it went away I wouldn’t miss it either. I’ve nearly killed the SP a couple of times.

The latest edition to the TiVoCast lineup is Jazz it Up!. As they describe themselves:
Jazz it Up! is the first web based TV news series to offer a direct look into the originated American musical art form of Jazz.
You will see and hear from some of the hottest Jazz performers, educators, students and promoters from around the world.

While I’m on the topic of TiVoCast, yesterday 3 Minute Ad Age seemed to go a bit crazy. My TiVo started downloading old episodes, going all the way back into September, again. And it downloaded some of them two or three times. I have my download limit set to 10, and I’d keep deleting them only to have ten more come down. So if you were seeing this, you’re not the only one. (Maybe I’m the only one, of course…) The good news is it eventually stopped, and today it downloaded a new episode as expected. So if your unit is still downloading old episodes just delete them and it’ll catch up.

Posted Thursday, October 9th, 2008 at 07:59 by MegaZone. Filed under Broadband, TiVo Tags: The Badoop Badoop Show, The Best of Video Downloads, TiVo, TiVoCast, Try This
TiVo’s just added three more channels to TiVoCast, and they all appear to be a bit self-referential. Not surprising as all three are grouped under TiVo Channels on the website.
First up, I mentioned The Badoop Badoop Show when it launched on YouTube last month. It is a short-form entertainment program hosted by TiVoShanan.
Since its inception, the Emmy® award-winning TiVo service has changed the way millions of people watch TV. And coming soon: the “The Badoop Badoop Show,” a quirky show to keep you in the entertainment know with TiVo recommendations every week on what to watch, hear, download and more. This is not your average entertainment news show. And yes! The show is named after one of TiVo’s unmistakable soundmarks: Badoop-Badoop!
At the time I said I wished it would come to TiVoCast – and here it is! Subscribe online or on your TiVo via Find Programs & Downloads -> Download TV, Movies, & Web Video -> Browse Other Videos -> All -> The Badoop-Badoop Show
Next up is The Best of Video Downloads, which should be fairly self explanatory.
Don’t know what to watch from Video Downloads? Check out our favorite clips each week for a sample of the Best of Video Downloads.
Subscribe online or on your TiVo via Find Programs & Downloads -> Download TV, Movies, & Web Video -> Browse Other Videos -> All -> The Best of Video Downloads
And finally there is the simply named Try This. It looks like a channel for all of the TiVo ‘feature’ videos they’ve done, introducing various features like music playback or photo viewing.

A new channel has shown up on TiVoCast, TheWB.com. Right now it looks like there is just one program carried as part of the channel, Sorority Forever. Which describes itself as:
Phi Chi Kappa is the hottest sorority on campus. For every freshmen girl, getting in seems like a dream come true, but there are mysteries around every corner of the Phi Chi House. Behind the sex, the drama, and the beautiful people lies a terrifying secret.
Yeah, so I’ll be giving that a miss. But I do hope this is just a first step and more of the content from TheWB.com becomes available on TiVo, there are a few good shows there. It would be great if TiVo connected with more content sites like Hulu, CBS.com. etc.

Posted Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 at 00:30 by MegaZone. Filed under Broadband, PC, TiVo Tags: 3 Minute Ad Age, GeekBrief.TV, TiVo, TiVoCast
As I mentioned last month GeekBrief.TV had stopped updating on TiVoCast sometime in early July. It had been one of my favorite TiVoCasts since it was added last November, so I missed it.
Well, I got a pleasant surprise today when GeekBrief.TV showed up in my Now Playing List. Nice to see that whatever the problem was it has finally been resolved.
On the not-so-nice side, I signed up for the new 3 Minute Ad Age TiVoCast and got deluged. Ten episodes downloaded (I set mine to Keep At Most 10), I watched and deleted them – and ten more came in. I watched and deleted those. And ten more came in. All told I think thirty episodes came in. It looks like they went live with a backlog and they were all marked as new. So beware.
And on a different note, after my laptop post last week I finally pulled the trigger and bought a new one. Why? I found a coupon for $500 off good through 9/22. That was about 1/3 off, too good to pass up.

Another channel has joined the TiVoCast lineup, and this one is most likely to appeal to industry insiders. 3 Minute Ad Age is a daily, roughly three minute (surprise), video produced by the magazine Advertising Age. As you might expect, it focuses on stories in the advertising and marketing industry.

Posted Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 at 15:35 by MegaZone. Filed under Press Release, TiVo Tags: Entertainment Weekly, Guru Guides, marketing, Press Release, TiVo, TiVoCast
In what they’re calling an “Unprecedented Partnership” (wasn’t it preceded by a very similar deal with the Chicago Tribune? I don’t think unprecedented means what you think it means), as I posted earlier today, TiVo is teaming up with Entertainment Weekly.
Fromm their press release:
Entertainment Weekly’s ‘What to Watch’ TV recommendations will now be even easier to access, as the TiVo® service will automatically record the suggested programs. As a result, broadband enabled TiVo subscribers are guaranteed to always have the best programs available to watch whenever they turn on the TV set. The service is expected to launch this fall.
In addition, TiVo subscribers will be able to download Entertainment Weekly video content on the TiVo service, allowing viewers to enjoy EW.com’s original programs such as “Just a Minute,” “Ausiello TV,” “Idolatry,” and behind the scenes video from photo shoots.
It sounds pretty much exactly like the Chicago Tribune deal, a combination of an Entertainment Weekly Guru Guide and TiVoCast(s). This deal will probably result in more exposure for TiVo as EW’s audience is a lot more focused than the Tribune’s.
Though I think they might be laying it on a wee bit thick:
This unprecedented partnership allows two powerful properties to work together to create a more seamless television viewing experience for their respective audiences. TiVo chose Entertainment Weekly to be their trusted voice, and together, they are bridging the gap between Entertainment Weekly readers and all television viewers using the TiVo service. This truly holistic solution maximizes the service EW offers its audience with the innovation and ease of the TiVo service.
An ‘unprecedented partnership’ and a ‘truly holistic solution’? Really? TiVo, I love you pal, but I think that’s a little much for a marketing arrangement with some Guru Guides and TiVoCasts.
I’d be happy to be surprised by there being more to it, but that’s what it sounds like. A good deal, but not warranting such effusiveness.
