Philips burner supports DVD, CD, Blu-ray

Philips Electronics on Monday unveiled an optical disk drive that can burn and play CDs and DVDs in three formats, including the new Blu-ray standard.

Last night I was having a drink in a bar at the Mandalay Bay (I’m in Vegas for Internext, to be followed by CES) and happened to sit next to a cool Japanese gent who happened to be in charge of JVC’s US Blu-ray effort. :-)

More on the AMD chip for TiVo

Now I’m sitting at O’Hare – everything is just FUBAR. My connection was delayed, but not enough, so I’m on another flight to Vegas – which has been repeatedly delayed. Ah, well, such is life – you just have to have good Travel Zen to remain chill. And gadgets help to pass the time – I just got my iPod in time for this trip. ;-) I hope CES is worth it. (Who am I kidding? :-) )

Anyway, since I have time to play I was surfing around and I found a couple more articles over at TiVo Blog.

AMD unveils media processor, teams with TiVo for DVRs

I’m stuck on a plane waiting for departure at Logan – 2 hour delay so far, still waiting. But I have my laptop and a BlueTooth phone with GPRS. ;-) And so I can bring you this:

AMD has unveiled a system-on-chip (SoC) solution for portable media players that supports direct video content transfer to digital video recorders and scaling to DVD-quality displays. At the same time, AMD is partnering with TiVo to support its new DVR initiative.

Wouldn’t that be nice? A portable media player you just plug into the TiVo’s USB port and fill with shows? :-) Some of us has been speculating about that since the Series2 came out. :-) Then there was the TAZ I, which was announced at the last CES but is still vapor.

TiVo goes mobile with new free service

TiVo isn’t just for couch potatoes anymore.

The box that has become synonymous with digital recording of television programs now has a mobile companion, the TiVoToGo service, for more restless viewers. The service, announced Monday, allows subscribers to transfer programs to laptops–as long as copyright protections are in place.
