TiVo will extend its marketing of DVRs (digital video recorders) from Taiwan, its first market in Asia, to China next month, according to TiVo’s Taiwan and Asia sales agent TGC.

Looks like they’ll start off in Shanghai, where they’ve partnered with SiTV of Shanghai Media Group. The article also says that TGC will be adding network features, such as TiVo To Go and TiVo To Come Back next quarter, which will bring them closer to feature parity with the US boxes.

Also: Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), a leading Taiwan-based DMS (design and manufacturing services) provider, will continue to supply hardware equipment for DVR (digital video recording) provider TiVo, which will soon expand its presence from Taiwan to China, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times.

I picked this up from ZatzNotFunny. The FCC has posted a letter received from TiVo which includes some Series3 info. (PDF) There is also mention of TiVo’s efforts to encourage the FCC to require cable companies to provide equal access for CableCARD devices as they look at solutions such as Switched Digital Video. An excerpt from TiVo’s letter to cable cards:

Dear Cable Operator,

We wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that TiVo Inc. has self-verified its TiVo® Series3™ HD Digital Video Recorder product (Model No. TCD648250B) pursuant to applicable FCC regulations. The TiVo Series3 HD DVR product supports up to two CableCARD™ decoders. This product acts as two independent single stream UDCP CableCARD hosts within one set top box. It can also be configured to operate as a single CableCARD device. You should have received separate notification from CableLabs about this product as well.

This product is currently being tested by a small number of consumers in cable markets across the country, and will be generally available in retail stores soon. Thus, we wanted to ensure that you are aware of this product in time to make any necessary preparations to support customers who request two CableCARD decoders for their TiVo Series3 HD DVR.
