TiVo Series3 beta photos leaked

Both Engadget and HDBeat have the same photos of an S3 box in some lucky beta tester’s possession. But it doesn’t really reveal anything new – it looks just like the box I photographed at CES in January. I’m sure TiVo is going to want a word with the tester – who clearly also owns a Humax DVD-R TiVo and has CableVision cable service.

Any artists in the room?

As part of the redesign for TiVoLovers.com, I’d like to use a new icon. The problem is, I’m a terrible artist. I’d like something simple – basically the TiVo guy on a heart. TiVo Lovers – get it? Yeah, I’m so clever. Anyway, you can take the current icon and modify it. I did a tiny version of the concept as the new favicon.ico for the site. TiVo also has a number of source images to work from.

If we get a few submissions we can have a vote for the new icon. :-)

Edit: Thanks to notspam and artemis908 for their submissions. artemis908 nailed exactly what I had in mind – see the new community icon. :-)

TiVo’s KidZone Awarded NAE Seal of Approval

The National Association of Evangelicals awarded TiVo its Seal of Approval for the latest TiVo KidZone, a revolutionary new service that ensures quality television programming for children.

Many people wonder what the audience for KidZone is – this is one market segment it targets. I’m sure some people may be upset, but I see it as a good thing. I’m all in favor of tools to give individuals, and parents, control over content in their homes. What I’m not in favor of is someone else controlling the content in *my* home. If you can filter the content for yourself, or your family, you don’t need to worry about censoring shows in general. I’d rather see more tools like KidZone because when it is easy enough to control the content in the home, arguments in favor of broad content restrictions are undermined.

Site changes

My apologies to anyone who is experiencing trouble. For a while now I’ve had www.tivolovers.com pointing at this community, but I’ve decided I’d like to expand tivolovers.com and host more pages and grow the content. As part of that I’m updating www.tivolovers.com to point to what will be a new front page, and http://community.livejournal.com/tivolovers/ will point to the community. But right now the changes are still in progress so things may be flaky for those using the links around the net. I’ve put redirectors in place for Apache so that people following links to things like www.tivolovers.com/data/rss for the RSS feed, or links to individual entires, etc, should be redirected to the respective community.livejournal.com URL for now.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully things will settle out soon. And I’ll be leaving the redirection configuration in place indefinitely for all those old links out there.
