This week’s Amazon Unbox 99-cent sale

This week Amazon Unbox is offering Shooter, Breach, Ghost Rider, Babel, TMNT, and Pride as their $.99 rentals. Nice – I’ve been wanting to rent Shooter, but it has only been available for purchase previously. Now it is a rental for just $.99. I think I’ll check out TMNT too. :-)

Oh, and that reminds me. If you still have any of the $15 credit that TiVo and Amazon offered for sign-ups back when Unbox on TiVo was launched – remember that the credit is only good through August 31st, 2007. So get your purchases and rentals in now.

Disney is already looking into 2008 for Blu-ray releases

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is already looking forward to 2008 for more Blu-ray releases, with announcements of their first BD-Live enabled titles, their first full-motion picture-in-picture bonus features (BD 1.1), and the first Disney Classic to hit BD, coming as a Blu-ray Platinum title: Sleeping Beauty.

“The Platinum titles are the crown jewels of the Disney Studios and we do not take releasing them lightly on any format. The proven Blu-ray technology has allowed us to take our films to new heights, fully utilizing the larger capacity and interactive capabilities for an incredible all-new consumer experience,” commented Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

Sleeping Beauty will including a virtual castle and multi-player activities as bonus features, both utilizing BD-Live online connectivity. Disney’s BD-Live releases will be kicked off earlier in 2008 with the special edition release of National Treasure. Two more major 2008 releases will be Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Disney’s The Chronicles of Narinia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – both of which will feature BD 1.1 full-motion picture-in-picture bonus content.

“The strides that we’ve made with this format are just the tip of the iceberg and we are confident that consumers will be astounded by the level of entertainment that can only be achieved by using the maximum capacity of the Blu-ray Disc format. All of these wonderful titles will appeal to the ever growing Blu-ray market and we are extremely proud to offer these in the most pristine and robust presentations ever for Disney fans around the globe,” continued Chapek.

Narnia hits in the spring of 2008, National Treasure in the summer, and then Sleeping Beauty and Finding Nemo in the fall. Disney is clearly committed to bringing advanced content to Blu-ray over the next year. The release of Disney/Pixar’s Cars later this year will have advanced interactive content and games using the BD-J platform.
