JB Hi-Fi Begins Selling TiVo In Australia

JB Hi-Fi CEO Richard Uechtritz had repeatedly stated that he wasn’t sure if his stores would pick up the Australian TiVo or not once the Harvey Norman exclusivity period had lapsed. But it seems that he’s decided it is worth carrying as they head into the holiday shopping season.

“Australian consumers today are quite savvy and willing to invest in digital devices that will stay relevant over time as well as bring ongoing services and benefits,” said Uechtritz. “We believe the TiVo media device will achieve this.”

The article in Current also mentions that“Clive Anthony’s store will also stock TiVo.” So now that’s Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, Clive Anthony’s, and JB Hi Fi. (And, seriously, what’s up with the men’s names for electronics stores?)

DISH Network Pays TiVo $104.6 Million

Following the Supreme Court’s decision Monday not to hear the case, DISH Network yesterday paid TiVo $104,600,472. That covers the initial $74 million damages award, plus interest and supplemental damages through September 8, 2006. TiVo is still pursuing additional damages and seeking to enforce the injunction against DISH in the District Court of Texas. TiVo issued the following statement:

“We are pleased to have received $104,600,472 from EchoStar on October 8, 2008, which includes the initial $74 million in damages awarded by the United States District Court for EchoStar’s willful patent infringement as well as supplemental damages covering the period through September 8, 2006 and interest. We remain confident that the District Court will enforce the injunction and award further damages from EchoStar’s continued infringement of our Time Warp patent.”

Judge Folsom in Texas had said he’d try to render his decision by October 1, but that it may come as late as November. As the decision has not yet been delivered, we may have a few more weeks before the final word. Then, of course, DISH there could be further appeals of his decision.

The Badoop Badoop Show, The Best of Video Downloads, And Try This All Hit TiVoCast

TiVo’s just added three more channels to TiVoCast, and they all appear to be a bit self-referential. Not surprising as all three are grouped under TiVo Channels on the website.

First up, I mentioned The Badoop Badoop Show when it launched on YouTube last month. It is a short-form entertainment program hosted by TiVoShanan.

Since its inception, the Emmy® award-winning TiVo service has changed the way millions of people watch TV. And coming soon: the “The Badoop Badoop Show,” a quirky show to keep you in the entertainment know with TiVo recommendations every week on what to watch, hear, download and more. This is not your average entertainment news show. And yes! The show is named after one of TiVo’s unmistakable soundmarks: Badoop-Badoop!
