Since the Transformer is $364.99 on Amazon, and the keyboard dock is $118.15, getting both for $319 is an excellent deal.

Those long-time readers might also recall that Ben had published a book back in 2005, titled Off the Top of My Head, which collected the columns he had written while working for the Katahdin Times in Maine. The book is still available in hardcover and paperback, starting at $20.99. But I recently commented to Ben that he should look into Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing program as a way to bring the book to the Kindle platform, and he took my suggestion. The book became available tonight to Kindle users for just $4.99. And it is in the Kindle Lending Library so Amazon Prime customers can borrow it for free – though Ben could use the five bucks, so I hope you buy it if you like it.

Sure, he’s been my best friend since we met back in 1991, so I’m admittedly biased, but he’s a clever & witty writer and the columns are full of humor. And I feature in a few of the columns, when he’s relating tales of our misadventures.

Front projection is the way to go for maximum screen size, if you have the space for it. MSRP on the HD20 is $1299.99 and Amazon sells them new for $834.20, so this is a pretty good deal for a Full HD projector.

To go with that Galaxy Tab 10.1, and provide more storage, they’re also offering a new Samsung Galaxy Tab SD Card Reader for only $10. As pictured above, the card reader connects to the 40-pin port on the tablet and enables the use of SD & SDHC cards, as well as microSD & microSDHC via the included adapter. Given the low pricing, and the 16GB of storage in the tablet, I’d strongly advise spending the extra $10 to pick one up. And if you already own a Galaxy Tab and want a way to use SD cards, this is your deal.

Lastly there is a refurbished Vizio 8″ Android Tablet for only $154.00 + $5 S&H. This is a lower-end Android tablet, running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The 8″ screen is 1024×768, and it has a 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, and only 4GB of on-board storage – though there is a built-in microSD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage. So it isn’t a power house, but this tablet’s differentiator is the built in IR blaster. Yes, it is really designed to be used like a large, touch screen remote control for your home entertainment system. The tablet includes the V.I.A. (Vizio Internet Apps) Plus interface and it comes pre-loaded with a number of universal remote app covers to make it easy to start using it as your remote control.

I picked up three of the bundles the last time I posted the deal, at $9.99, and I’ve been very happy with them. I picked up a number of additional AA & AAA packs from Amazon and I’ve been phasing out my old NiCD & NiMH cells, replacing them with the iGo cells. Amazon sells a charger and just four cells for $12.99, so $7.99 with eight is a good deal.

The HDHomeRun Prime is a remote tuner, you connect it to your cable and your network and the tuners are then available for Windows 7 Windows Media Center PCs on the network to use for watching live TV or recording. You can get the full product details from the SiliconDust website. Today the HDHomeRun Prime officially requires a Windows 7 Windows Media Center PC, but I did just talk to SiliconDust at The Cable Show this week. They’re working on adding DLNA/DTCP-IP support which would allow any DLNA/DTCP-IP-enabled device to access the tuners over the network. I’ll get around to writing a post on that.

It is a simple device. There is a coax connection for the cable, a slot for the M-Card CableCARD, Ethernet for the network, USB to support a Tuning Adapter if required, and a power connection. The $129.99 price is lower than Amazon’s $149.99 new price, and nearly half off the full $249.99 MSRP.

Sellout.Woot! shows the tablet as shipping with Android 3.1 Honeycomb, but the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update has already been released for the Xoom so you should be able to update as soon as you have it. All in all the Motorola Xoom is a solid Android tablet. This is a half-price deal as the MSRP is $499.99. And new tablets sell for $369.87 on Amazon.

This is a pretty good deal as the MSRP is $298.00, and Amazon sells these new for $233.46. The lower-end Slingbox SOLO model has a $178.00 MSRP and sells new for $142.76, and while it can handle HD input it does not stream in HD. It also only officially supports one input, while the PRO-HD supports two sets of A/V input – one HD and one SD, as well as having an internal ATSC/Clear-QAM tuner.

The Premiere works with antenna, analog & digital cable, and Verizon FiOS. It also supports a number of broadband content services: Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Music Choice, YouTube, Pandora, Rhapsody, Live365, and web videos from a variety of sources such as CNET & Revision3. Stream music from your PC. View photos from your PC, or online via Picasa & Photobucket. You can control the unit via free apps for iOS & Android. Schedule recordings online via TiVo’s website.

Transfer recordings to your PC via TiVo Desktop, or a Mac with Roxio’s Toast or Popcorn. You can also move content to & from the unit, or stream video to the TiVo using third party applications like kmttg, Streambaby, or pyTiVo. And if you’re a Comcast customer, the TiVo Premiere is receiving XFINITY On Demand support. It is available now in the SF Bay Area and coming soon to Boston, with other service areas to come.

There is a reason TiVo is still the gold standard for DVRs, and this is a good deal on the current model.

The MSRP is $359.99 and Amazon sells these new for $217.95, so this more than half off Amazon’s price, and less than a third of MSRP. It is still a little pricey for a table fan – but it is the world’s coolest table fan! And how many table fans can do this?

And now it is just $49.99 for new Verizon Wireless customers when purchased through Amazon Wireless. And if you’re an existing Verizon Wireless subscriber looking to upgrade it is just $149.99 with a contract extension.

Remember, not all devices that use SD cards may support the later SDHC, or especially the SDXC, specifications. So before you buy a card to use in your device, make sure it will be supported.

First up, originally slated to end March 26th, but extended through March 31st, the DROID Madness Sale. This sale is only good on new Verizon Wireless activations. Of all of these the one I’d select is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus – which is in fact the phone I carry. My second choice would probably be the DROID RAZR, or maybe the DROID RAZR MAXX, though battery life hasn’t really been an issue for me so far.

Note that the original Series3 (TCD648250) requires two CableCARDs – S-Cards or M-Cards. While the TiVo HD (TCD652160) can utilize a single M-Card. Depending on what your cable company charges for CableCARDs this may or may not be a factor in your decision. The original S3 has the fancy OLED front panel display and the Glo remote, while the TiVo HD has the basic LED indicator lights and a non-Glo remote.

They also have the older Series1 and Series2 units with internal analog tuners and support for external set top boxes, both single-tuner ($299.99) and dual-tuner ($349.99) models. They even have Pioneer TiVo Series2 DVD combo units ($399.99). These units are available in 40GB (single-tuner) or 80GB (dual-tuner & DVD) base models, or upgraded to 80GB ($19.00 S2), 500GB ($99.00 S2 – $149.00 DVD), or 1TB ($149.00 S2 – $199.00 DVD).

The real old-school Series1 units are available in Philips ($199.99) or Sony ($249.99) models, both with 40GB. Upgrades to 80GB ($19.00) or 120GB ($39.00) are available. While I could see some reasons to buy the Series2 units, I really can’t see why someone would want one of the Series1 units these days. Maybe someone really into TiVo hacking with the old TiVoWeb and the like, but even then I doubt it.

All of these units have been refurbished and tested by WeaKnees, and they come with a six month parts and labor warranty. Quantities are limited, so grab one now if you’re interested.

One of the drawbacks of the thin design is that, to achieve it, Samsung left off any expansion capabilities – but this deal includes the Samsung SD Card reader accessory that supports SDHC cards up to 32GB, along with a microSD adapter to use your microSD cards with the reader.

MSRP on the tablet is $499.99, and Amazon sells them for $448.00. The Galaxy Tab SD Card Reader MSRP is $19.99 and Amazon’s price is $14.11. So the $299.99 price for both is a very good deal. This is still one of the best Android tablets on the market, and you’re getting it at a substantial discount.

Let’s compare the Roku HD from Sellout.Woot! to the Roku 2 XS and see what the extra $30 gets you:

The Roku 2 XS includes the Bluetooth motion sensing remote to support casual gaming – and it comes with a full copy of Angry Birds. And it runs all of the latest software with full support for the latest Roku channel features. I’d grab the Roku 2 XS for the extra features and current platform.

By way of comparison I’ve included the current Roku LT in the table below, as it lists for the same $49.99 price. Both of the Roku HD models give you wired Ethernet, which is better than WiFi for streaming video and which the LT lacks. The N1000/N1100 also give you Component Video, S-Video, and Optical Audio output, which are absent on the other two units.

Personally, of these three I’d opt for the original Roku HD N1000/N1100. Sure it is a little bit bigger, but it offers more flexibility for connections. If you’re positive you don’t need the extra outputs, the 2000C is perfect for wired Ethernet. Checkout the deal before it is gone.
