This is giveaway three of three, as explained in the first giveaway post. This is my old Slingbox PRO and HD Connect. Note, this is the PRO, and not the PRO-HD. The PRO does not stream in HD. With the HD Connect dongle you can feed it HD content via component video but it is down sampled to 640×480 for streaming. The PRO also doesn’t work with the iOS, Android, or Windows Phone SlingPlayer clients – they only work with the PRO-HD and SOLO. (The clients require H.264, the PRO encodes as WMV9.) So what is it good for? Well, it works just fine with the Windows and Mac OS SlingPlayer, and it works with the older mobile clients – Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian, and Blackberry. And it works with the SlingCatcher, if you have one of those.

With the HD Connect the Slingbox PRO supports up to four simultaneous inputs. There is an internal NTSC tuner which supports analog cable, composite video, S-Video, and component video (via the HD Connect dongle). It is in the original packaging and I’ve included all of the types of cables it came with. They might not be the exact cables – who can keep that straight and tell one cable from another? – but you should have what you need.

Slingbox PRO with HD Connect and SlingPlayer Mobile for $229.95

Now through July 15th, Sling Media is running a promotional bundle. Buy the Slingbox PRO ($229.99 MSRP) and get the HD Connect dongle ($49.99 MSRP) for component video input and a SlingPlayer Mobile license ($29.99 MSRP), all for $229.95. So basically you get the HD Connect and SPM license free with the purchase of the Slingbox PRO. While I’ve seen the Slingbox PRO & HD Connect bundled for less, including the SPM license this looks like a pretty decent bundle deal. Amazon sells the Slingbox PRO for $182.99 and the HD Connect for $39.99, that’s $222.98 – without SPM, which would bring it to $252.97.

SlingPlayer Mobile is currently available for Palm OS, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Windows Mobile Professional/PPC, and Symbian S60. Symbian UIQ is in beta now and will be out soon, and Blackberry support is in development, expected later this year. The license works for any of the SlingPlayer mobile platforms.

From June 2 through June 8, Buy.com is selling the Slingbox PRO with the HD Connect as a bundle for only $195.00. That’s over $100 off the $299.98 combined MSRP. I own a Slingbox PRO myself, and it is a nice box if you want to sling from multiple sources.

This week Buy.com is selling the Slingbox PRO and HD Connect as a bundle for $197.99. As a Slingbox PRO & HD Connect owner, I’ll say this is a great product – especially if you have a high-def TiVo.

They’re also selling the HP Pavilion Media Center TV M8200n Desktop (3GHz Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 3GB DDR2, 500GB, DVDÂ±RW DL, Windows Vista Home Premium) for $649.99 – MSRP is $1,100. That actually seems like a decent deal on a fairly good Media Center PC.

Buy.com just keeps having specials on the Slingbox Pro. This time the deal is good from 11/26 through 12/2 and it is for a Slingbox Pro with HD Connect cable for $199.99. I think that’s their best price yet for the combination.
