As you’re probably aware, TiVo recently launched an HME application to enable Domino’s ordering from your TV, and Dave Zatz over at Zatz Not Funny created a video of the process. And now there is a promo video for the feature:

New iPhone App Shows Your TiVo Now Playing List

TiVo Blog has uncovered another TiVo-related iPhone application, DVR Shows. DVR Shows will show you a list of the programs your TiVo has recorded, by connecting to it over the network. (So if you’re away from your LAN it won’t work, or you’ll have to open a port to your TiVo on your router.) The $0.99 cent application allows you to check what’s waiting for you on your TiVo without firing up the TV and TiVo to check. TiVo Blog has some screen shots as well.

View Photos On Your TiVo From Your iPhone

TiVo Blog brought to my attention a new application for the iPhone. It adds a TiVo photo server application to the iPhone that allows you to view photos stored on your iPhone on your TiVo over the network without first moving them to a PC or Mac. The app’s creator, Chris Lundie, is also posting in TiVoCommunity. The app is just $0.99 in the iPhone App Store. And TiVo Blog has posted a number of screen shots.

Following up on the new ‘The Badoop Badoop Show‘ channel on YouTube, TiVo has also created a YouTube channel specifically for Australian TiVo users. (RSS feed.) Currently the channel has one video, a ‘Welcome to TiVo’ for Australian users. As well as the US ‘YouTube on TiVo’ video, which has a ‘Coming soon to Australia!’ note in the description.

So if you’re an Australian interested in TiVo, or anyone interested in TiVo’s Australian doings, you might be interested in this channel.

Galleon 2.5.3 Update Released

It has been just over nine months since the last Galleon update, so it is nice to see that development of this TiVo HME application is still continuing. Galleon is one of the leading applications available for TiVo HME, as well as being one of the oldest – evolving from JavaHMO. The 2.5.3 update includes several changes:

The open source Galleon 2.5.3 media server for TiVo is now available.

This version includes the following:

Version 2.5.3:
———————-
* Update JmDNS package to 1.0 (not using JmDNS from
hme-host-sample-1.4.jar anymore); seems to help on Mac OS X 10.5
* Added TiVo name to detail screen in ToGo app
* Updated weather forecast parsing to handle more cases
* Fixed local radar after change on weather source web pages
* Update help URLs to point at content now on sourceforge.net
* Fixed iPhoto album parser to clean out old albums during library
update.

Known problems:
* not all galleon skins in HD cover the screen–use tivo skins
* still some layout glitches in HD
* still some HD menu highlights are too big for text

You can download Galleon 2.5.3 here.

TiVo Desktop 2.6.2 Released

TiVo has released a minor update for TiVo Desktop on PCs, version 2.6.2. TiVo Desktop still requires the user to manually go into Add/Remove Programs and remove the old version before installing the new one. That’s really unbelievable, IMHO. Modern applications shouldn’t require that kind of user spelunking to update. For that matter, a consumer oriented application like TiVo Desktop really should have an ‘Update’ option within the application itself that would download and install the update – just like Firefox and numerous other applications do. Asking the average consumer to go into Add/Remove Programs is just ridiculous, they could at least include an Uninstall link in the program group menu. It just isn’t very easy and user friendly, which are normally TiVo’s hallmarks. I’m a complete geek and can’t remember the last time an application, other than TiVo Desktop, made me manually remove the old version first. I’m sure it has happened, just not often. (I usually run into it with betas and trial software.)

Anyway, nothing major in this release, it is basically a bug fix and performance release. I’ll have to see if it helps with the issues I’ve been having with 2.6.1. According to a post at TiVoCommunity:

This version has the following improvements in TiVo Desktop:

*Improved Reliability of transfers of large recordings to the DVR.
*Reduced memory usage when transferring recordings from the DVR.

For Plus:
*Improved communications with TiVo when linking to TiVo account and handling web video content.
*Improved handling of web video content when pausing or shutting down TiVo server.
