BestBuy.com Countdown to Thanksgiving Sale & Black Friday Preview

BestBuy.com has been running a Countdown to Thanksgiving Sale, it started Sunday and runs through Thursday. Each day they have special deals of the day. Today you can get a Nikon Coolpix S1100PJ 14.1-Megapixel Digital Camera in black, violet, or green for $129.99 – normally $299.99. The camera has 5x optical/4x digital zoom, a 3.0″ TFT-LCD display, 720p HD movie mode, and a built-in projector for when you just have to share you photos with everyone in the room. You can also get a 15.6″ Gateway Laptop with Intel® Celeron® Processor for $249.99.

In addition to the current sale, they’ve also published a preview of what they’ll be offering on Black Friday – in stores and online.

Amazon Back-to-School Gaming Event

Amazon knows what students really need when going back to school – games. And so they’re holding a Back-to-School Event with deals on all many of gaming goods. (Why not just call it a sale? Why Event? *shrug*) It is a fairly extensive sale, with 129 items to choose from, split into three categories. There’s Back to School, with 79 items, apparently aimed at the younger crowd. Then Back to College, with 49 items, for the more mature gaming audience. And Accessories, which is just the PlayStation Move Motion Controller and Navigation Controller. The games are for PS2, PS3, XBox 360, Wii, DS, 3DS, and maybe others I didn’t notice.

Amazon has a number of promotions running currently. First up, for the handheld gamers, their Summer Roadtrip Handheld Gaming Event. That’s a fancy way of saying save on a selection of 153 Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, and Sony PSP games, and gaming accessories.

More into staying home that road tripping? Well, you can enjoy the stay more with a new HDTV and Blu-ray deck, right?

Save on select Sony HDTVs. There are thirteen 1080p LCD & LED models to choose from, ranging from 32-inch to 55-inch, nine of them 3D.

Save on select Panasonic HDTVs and Blu-ray players. There are two 32″ 720p LCD sets, a 32″ & 37″ 1080p LCD, a 32″ & 37″ 1080p LED, and a 42″ 1080p plasma set, and three Blu-ray players to choose from.

Save on select LG HDTVs. This promotion has the most choice, with 34 LCD, LED, and plasma models to choose from. There are 720p and 1080p sets ranging from 22 to 60 inch, twelve of them 3D. There is also a promotion for free additional 3D glasses with five LG HDTV models.

All three promotions run through August 20th, 2011.

Hotels Turn To Gizmos For Guests

There’s an interesting article in The New York Times today. Hotel chains have been turning to consumer electronics and computers to help draw in and satisfy increasingly tech savvy guests. Gadgets and gizmos are increasingly present in rooms, lobbies, and lounges in a growing number of hotels. Sheraton has teamed with Microsoft for their Link@Sheraton lounges where guests can perform tasks such as checking email and printing out boarding passes. Westin is placing the Nintendo Wii, with games like Wii Fit, in some of their fitness centers. Gansevoort South in Miami Beach, part of the Gansevoort Hotel Group, is working with Sony to bring Sony computers, PS3s, ebook readers, and more to a new lounge.

TiVo In Gadget Freak’s Farewell Top Five

PC World’s Gadget Freak column is coming to an end after a five year run. And in his farewell post, Gadget Freak columnist Dan Tynan calls out the five best gadgets he’s encountered over the course of writing the column:

The best gadgets have certain qualities in common. They solve difficult problems simply and elegantly. They’re constantly ahead of the curve, adding new features before you realize you need them. And most important, they put you in control of your own digital destiny–so that you can make the decisions about what you want to do and how you want to do it.

Dan’s top five gadgets are: Apple iPod and iPhone, TiVo, iRobot Roomba, Sonos Sound System, and Nintendo Wii.

Seems like a respectable list to me. I would probably have few different choices, but each person has their own needs. TiVo would certainly be on my list as well, and probably my iPod.
