Woot! – Vizio 8″ Android Tablet with Wi-Fi and Folio Case Just $159.99

Vizio 8 Android Tablet with Wi-Fi and Folio Case Today’s Woot! deal is a refurbished Vizio 8″ Android Tablet with Wi-Fi and Folio Case for only $159.99 + $5 S&H. This is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread tablet which is really designed to be a TV companion, unsurprising for Vizio as they’re best known for their HDTVs.

As it is designed to be a TV companion it includes an IR blaster and, to take advantage of this, it includes a universal remote control app. So it isn’t just an Android tablet, it is a tablet remote for your A/V systems. As an entertainment focused device it includes SRS TruMedia Audio and an HDMI port for displaying content on your big screen. And the UI is based on the Vizio Internet Apps, or VIA, system found on their HDTVs. Connectivity is via 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth. Amazon sells the tablet alone new for $299.99 and the folio case for $32.61. So this is a $332.60 value for half price.

Can anyone share their experiences and impression of the Vizio tablet out this season.  Costco has sold out!  Is it really that good for the money?
Can one do email and word processing?

    Thanks

It is a full featured Android 2.3 device with access to the Android Market. So you can access pretty much all of the apps you could on an Android 2.3 smartphone. It isn’t Android 3.0 or later, so you can’t use the tablet-optimized apps such as those designed for the Xoom, Galaxy Tab, etc. But you still have access to the majority of apps in the Android Market, which includes email, word processing, etc. And, of course, you can access Google’s services like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Music, etc. So it isn’t a bad little tablet, especially if you will use the universal remote features and IR blaster which most tablets do not have.

If you really want an Android tablet then you might shop around, there have been deals on Android 3.0+ tablets like the ASUS Transformer or Motorola Xoom which put them in the same price range as the Vizio, but they normally cost a bit more.
