Well, there’s at least two–the Cisco/Scientific Atlanta and the Motorola now Google TA’s given the different head end architectures. Course the Motorola’s are better but rarely used since TWC is the big deployer of SDV…

Better to move forward with AllVid. TA’s seem like too much of a kludge. Course I say that not having to deal with them myself. I’m sure if I was a TWC customer I’d feel differently.

Unfortunately, they can’t. UDCPs aren’t allowed to have the HW for two-way communication – like the Tuning Adapter. I’m not sure Tuning Adapters are universally compatible either, so I’m not sure what kind of HW they’d have to include or if there might be different software loads to deal with different head end systems.

MegaZone, I couldn’t agree with you more. Any chance TiVo would consider embedding a Tuning Adapter in a variant of the Premiere? I would be willing to pay extra to eliminate an external 15W box from my TiVo setup. Its probably not worth it if Allvid becomes a reality but I can’t see that happening on the major carriers for quite some time. My guess is that it would add about $100 to the cost of the platform to support SDV internally not to mention the development costs.
