As far as I’m aware LiquidTV does NOT fall under MSD – it is not eligible for a discount nor does it make other units eligible.

CableCARD support under LiquidTV is still something of an unknown. Nero said they think it will work if installed on a PC with CableCARD tuners, but they haven’t tested it. To get a PC with CableCARD tuners you need to buy one ready made, you can’t add them to your own PC.

I wonder if the service for this unit would qualify as the multi service discount qualifier.

Additionally I think that this is in theory a great thing especially if you can get the cable cards in it so that you could have a four tuner HD DVR. That would make this a very valuable Tivo media server essentially.

I did mention the 30-day trial.

As for the deathwatch, I thought Engadget dropped TiVo off that a while back.

There’s the whole HTPC market that, I guess, this is aimed at, too. The TiVocast and HME features seem a bit redundant for a PC version, so I’m not sure that’s such a loss.

I don’t have any PCs with tuners, but I’d be interested in what people think. TiVoBlog is reporting a 30 day free trial will be available, too.

I think this will definitely extend TiVo’s longevity, but probably not enough for Engadget to take it off its deathwatch list
