In fact, almost certainly not. All of their new platforms - the Australian platform and the generic DVB-T/S platform - are based directly on the TiVo HD hardware. That's their core platform for the foreseeable future - I expect the Series3 and Series2DT to be phased out and the TiVo HD to be the only platform going forward, possible with some different capacities introduced.I think it is more likely that they put aside some number of units for the offering, on the books as a marketing expense, and they've decided to continue the offer until they work through all of the earmarked units.

Nat – Doubtful. I'd have bought a Series 3 a month ago with the lifetime offer, but I couldn't find one in stock anywhere for less than the full $800.

Does “while supplies last” plausibly suggest new hardware as soon as they clear the channel of the Tivo HD? You still need to buy the box first.

Yes, the $199 is just the transfer fee. I did purchase my lifetime in 2002. The $199 is just for the lifetime, not the box right? So I need to buy a retail HD box then pay $199 for the lifetime?

Thanks, that helps. I did purchase my lifetime in 2002. Which is close to the same pricing on the TiVo HD either way. But the deadline on the $399 deal is fast approaching, so you'd need to make sure you have it to activate before the deadline. It won't do you any good if you order it but it doesn't arrive in time. The bundle is a safer bet in that regard.

If you bought the S2 with lifetime before October 1, 2003 then the best deal is to transfer the lifetime to a new TiVo HD for $199.

Otherwise you can pick up the TiVo HD with lifetime bundle, or buy a TiVo HD or Series3 wherever and activate it with lifetime for $399.
