The BD-UP5000 is only just appearing - and they've announced the BD-UP5500.CES is where these companies announce the products for the coming year, often months in the future (the Slingbox PRO-HD isn't due until 3Q08, for example). And other press outlets have also said they expected Toshiba to announce their plans for the 4th gen at the show. The 3rd gen has been out for several months, considering the product cycles they should have the 4th generation players well along now. 4th gen BD players are being announced now.It looks bad for Toshiba - the lack of an announcement just stands out in light of all the competition announcing their next players. Did they have nothing to say? Did they pull 4th gen player announcements at the last minute while they evaluate the market now?

Samsung started shipping the BD-P1400 around the same time, and they’ve announced the BD-P1500.
