TiVo eSATA support creeps closer to release

We know that the new 9.2 software for the Series3 and TiVo HD has latent eSATA support and TiVo has announced it will be enabled in Novemberthis year – but now Dave Zatz has spotted a Western Digital 500GB 3.5″ My Book TiVo DVR Expander at the Best Buy for Business website. It is the WDG1S5000 model, which is the same model that has been marketed for use with Scientific Atlanta cable DVRs. It makes sense that WD would market the same product line to TiVo users once the eSATA ports are enabled.

The Best Buy for business website’s price is $219.99, yet you can buy from the offical Western Digital site for 199.99. Also, if you look at the docs for the drive, from the WD site, check out the drawing of the DVR in the install diagram. It is a S3 Tivo.

Oddly, they’ve been using the TiVo in the documentation since it was released. Even though it is sold for the SciAtl boxes. That’s always been amusing.
