Some potential good news for MythTV users

Last month Zap2It Labs dropped a bombshell on the free DVR user community when they announced they’d be discontinuing their free guide data service. This service has notably been key to the use of MythTV, and without it MythTV users would’ve been reduced to screen-scraping websites or going back to time/channel based recordings.

Well, it looks like they may be getting a reprieve. No, Z2L hasn’t changed their mind, but there is a new group looking to fill their shoes: Schedules Direct. There isn’t much information yet, but it looks like they’re working on providing a solution before Z2L turns off their service on September 1st. It appears to be a community driven effort – this is their board:

Isaac Richards, Chairman (MythTV)
Robert Eden (XMLTV)
Daniel Kristjansson (MythTV)
Kevin Odorczyk (MacProgGuide)
Chris Petersen (Mythtv)
