BD’s Wholesale Club? More Blu-ray news

Is this a growing trend? Video Business is reporting that BJ’s Wholesale Club is going exclusively Blu-ray in all 170 store. BJ’s will no longer stock HD DVDs in their stores, only BD. Both formats will continue to be sold on their website.

And there is also a report that Woolworths in the UK will also go Blu-ray exclusively in their stores – while continuing to sell HD DVD on the web.

Two more small studios are going BD exclusively. Razor Digital is going BD and releasing four IMAX titles in November. Questar is also reportedly going BD.

Denon, a big name in high-end A/V gear, has jumped into the high-def player market with an announcement of two Blu-ray systems, the DVD-3800BDCI and DVD-2500BTCI. These are extremely expensive, high-end systems – so they’re not going to sell a lot of these. But Denon is an influential brand that caters to serious audio/videophiles.

You just don’t see studios and retailers announcing HD DVD exclusivity.
