HP begins shipping notebooks with bundled SlingPlayer

The first fruits of a deal announced back at CES have begun to appear. HP is shipping the HP Pavilion HDX notebook with Sling Media’s SlingPlayer software pre-installed. More than that, a version of SlingPlayer is included in the QuickPlay applications which can be accessed without booting Windows. So you can fired up SlingPlayer immediately without the wait, and power draw, of Windows.

According to Sling Media, over time SlingPlayer will be built into all HP notebooks. Which is good, as the HDX is a monster with a 20.1″ screen, weighing in at 15.5 pounds, and a hefty USD$3000. More a vaguely portable desktop replacement than something you want to try taking on a business trip – unless you travel with a Sherpa.
