Letter from the editor

Whoa, people. We’ve got to give Dad a little—make that a lot—of love this year! An Omnibus survey last week unearthed this heartbreaking little tid-bit: 86% of people spend more money celebrating Mother’s Day than Father’s Day. Eeks.

Same survey also discovered Dad’s number one pastime, and guess what: It’s not home improvement. Nor is it reading. It’s not even outdoor activities (yes, including golf). It’s… surprise! Relaxing in front of the TV.

So this year, we’re giving TiVo subscribers and their friends an opportunity to reverse this unjust trend with an incredible offer to honor Dad: Get $200 off (instantly, no mail-in rebates!) the world’s greatest DVR, the TiVo® Series3™ HD Digital Media Recorder when you purchase any TiVo Service Gift Card from our Gift Center for the world’s greatest dad…YOURS!

With the only DVR THX® Certified for sound and picture (That’s a first-ever for THX, by the way: Never before has THX Certified an HD product for both sound and picture!), Dad will feel the “Highest Definition” of love, indeed. (And how convenient to give a gift the whole family can enjoy.)

Here’s to grills, drills, and TiVo,
Shanan

P.S. Don’t forget…Father’s Day is Sunday, June 17th. So, remember to order by Thursday with overnight shipping to ensure delivery by Friday! Be sure to check out great savings on other TiVo boxes, too.

TiVo Tip: Folders are Neat

Of course you know your Now Playing List can be organized by Recorded Date, but how ’bout those Groups? Turning on Groups puts like programs into folders, including, for example, all episodes of a series, and/or programs auto-recorded for your WishList® searches. You’ll also get one for your TiVo Suggestions.

At the bottom of your Now Playing List, you’ll notice it always displays your current sort/group options. Here’s how to change it:

Press the ENTER/LAST button on the remote control.
From the Now Playing List Options, highlight the Sort option; then press the RIGHT or LEFT arrow button on the remote control to toggle between the Sort options.
Highlight the Groups option; then press the RIGHT or LEFT arrow button on the remote control to toggle between On and Off.
Highlight View Now Playing with these options; then press SELECT.

Bonus Tip: If you’ve got little ones in the house, try sorting Alphabetically for a spell. Several subscribers swear it’s helped fast-forward the “learn to read” process.

Sorry, feature not available on Series1 or DIRECTV boxes.

WishList® Search Suggestions

You’re not maximizing your TiVo potential if you’re not employing a few WishList searches at all times to find a few of your favorite things and then some. From TiVo Central, select Find Programs, then Create a WishList search, and then…:

Try:Why:
Category Only: Show Types/Season Premiere Find new shows for summer.
Title: “THE PRINCESS BRIDE”* It’s inconceivably hilarious.
Keyword: CAMPING ‘Tis the season.
Keyword: BALLROOM Oh, just give it a whirl.

Once you create your search term, you can choose to “View upcoming episodes” every 14 days or so, or set it to auto-record every match. And if you’ve got good suggestions to share, send ‘em to Shanan.

*Tip: Use the PAUSE button for quotes (“), which indicate exact phrase.

TiVo Fan Mail

San Jose couple Tina and Andy Szeto take the cake (times two) when it comes to throwing a prime-time wedding. Read the San Francisco Chronicle story for details on their TV-themed affair (even Jay Leno heard about it and mentioned it in a monologue last week!).

Initially, the unusual request gave Debbie the cake designer great PAUSE. Typically she’s not one to say “I do” to wedding cakes, but because she is a most enthusiastic TiVo subscriber herself, she was more than willing to commit and came up with the “TiVo bride/groom” concept herself. Ahhh, the (sweet) things we do for love.

No, we don’t make this stuff up. You send us a story or photo of your favorite TiVo moment and we make a RECORD of it—from TiVo birthday cakes to TiVo tattoos to TiVo what-have-you.
