TiVo Series2 8.3 update Priority Request and a couple of other things.

TiVo has started rolling out the 8.3 update for Series2 units. If you want it faster, sign up for the priority list. Series3 units will have an update soon.

A couple of other tidbits to share.

If you’re trying the TiVo Desktop 2.4 for Windows Preview Release, there is a feedback forum here.

Also, if you’re still using a phone line with your TiVo (you really want to use broadband if you can), it looks like the pool of available numbers shrank on March 1st. You may need to change the dial-in number your TiVo is using if it has had problems connecting.

And don’t forget to vote for TiVo. Currently in second place, after the Slingbox Pro.

But the more I think about it, the SlingBox really does deserve the win. Everyone I know hates Vista, and a lot of those people hate it for the ‘locked down’ feel. Now, we can go over the merits and demerits of the S3 being locked tighter than a drum, and in fact have, not only in this community but in others, and in newsgroups, and in other webforums, and so on and so on. Ad nauseam indeed. However, at the end of the day, it will all boil down to the SB lets you watch TV anywhere you want (with a broadband connection) whereas the S3 won’t even let you move video to your portable device, be that a video ipod or notebook…let alone send it to your computer at work/hotel/whatever.

It IS a close contest, and rightly so. But if we’re honest with ourselves, S3 really should earn (a very well-deserved, don’t get me wrong) second place out of the list given.

Yeah, I was torn – I own both. I don’t know if it is because I’m used to TiVo, having used it for 5+ years, and the SB is still new to me – since I got it in February, but I’m a little more giddy over the SB. :-) I think that might be the ‘new toy’ aspect.
