RealNetworks®, Inc (NASDAQ: RNWK), the global leader in digital media delivery and TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of and leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), today announced a first-of-its-kind integration of the Rhapsody® digital music service with the TiVo® service giving TiVo subscribers access to over 3 million songs on demand right from the TiVo remote. This groundbreaking collaboration is intended to give broadband connected TiVo subscribers access to the award-winning Rhapsody® digital music experience via their television sets starting later this year.
Everything old is new again. People may not remember, but back in 2002, when the Series2 launched, TiVo announced three partnerships to bring content to the TiVo over the network. Radiance was going to provide video on demand. Jellyvision was going to provide gaming. And RealNetworks were going to provide audio content. But all three of the deals never materialized, back then.
Well, it looks like one of the three is back from the dead.
I’ll check it out when the booth opens, but I’d bet this time it is implemented under HME.
