TiVo has no say in what features are enabled. DirecTV licenses the software and controls the subscriptions, they can enable or disable anything they want - which is why networking has never been enabled. DirecTV is a closed system, 3rd parties cannot produce and sell DirecTV tuners. You have to be authorized by DirecTV, and a while back DirecTV pulled all those authorizations and now only sells 'DirecTV' branded receivers. (Note the Sony, Hughes, etc, branded boxes went off the market.) DirecTV wants you to use their in-house NDS-based DVR and *not* TiVo, so they're not going to let TiVo produce DirecTV-enabled boxes.
