Pulling 1080p off the disc, processing it at 1080i, then deinterlacing back to 1080p? Or is that merely a typo, and it refers to standard DVD playback?

I missed this: HD-XA2 HD DVD content output at 1080p available only as a result of up-conversion.

Are they doing the same thing the Samsung Blu-ray player is doing? HD DVD pricing matches Blu-ray for 1080p output. There is no mention of any improvements for the lower priced HD-A2 over the existing HD-A1, and it looks like the HD-A2 will not have 6 channel analog outs:A/V receiver with 5.1 analog (HD-XA2) or HDMI PCM audio capable (HD-A2 and HD-XA2) input required for playback of advanced audio formats.

So the HD-A2 ($499.99, October 2006) will not do 1080p or have HDMI 1.3, but the HD-XA2 ($999.99, December 2006) will.
