It looks like DirecTV is delaying the HR20 – again

From an article in Forbes, it looks like the new HD DVR from DirecTV, the HR20, is being pushed back – again. That leaves the TiVo-based HR10-250 as their HD DVR for a longer period. Instead of just having TiVo develop a newer platform for the newer MPEG-4 HD channels, they had to go an reinvent the wheel with a non-TiVo platform. First the SD R15 was repeatedly delayed, and finally debuted to universally poor reviews when compared to the TiVo-based R10, and now the already-late HD box is going to be even later.

DirecTV really should’ve just stuck with TiVo.

I keep wondering if anything will come out of the DirecTV-Microsoft relationship announced at CES earlier this year. If January rolls around and the choice is between a (potentially still vaporware) crappy DirecTV DVR and a Vista MCE box, I might just go with the latter.

Then again, if Vista was going to support DirecTV, I would expect to have heard something about it by now.
