Sony sets Blu-ray roll-out date

Sony Pictures on Tuesday said it aims to deliver its new Blu-ray Disc DVD format to U.S. stores on May 23 to coincide with the entry of compatible disc players, a new step in an industry war for control of home movie viewing.

It looks like they’re getting aggressive about pushing the launch now. A May release cuts HD-DVD’s market lead to about two months, as the first HD-DVD releases come at the end of March. HD-DVD still has a price advantage, with Toshiba pricing one player aggressively at $500, and the first BD player being about $1000, but prices should level out in time from competition.

    its really great to see this. like always im rooting for the blu ray here. seen much on the holo disk?

    im still going to wait for Blu ray to go down in price before i even go into it, and i may actually wait until the technology is a little better for it too. But im glad to see it being marketed. very exciting!
