TiVo Celebrates End of VCR Era With Commemorative Service at Digital Life; Consumers Paying Their Re

As the curtain rises on one of the country’s largest consumer technology shows, Digital Life, TiVo will bring down the curtain on the VCR. In a ceremony that honors the passing of the venerable, but clunky VCR that never lived up to its promise for easy and convenient television recording, TiVo will give away hundreds of 40 hour TiVo Series2 units to consumers who trade in an old videotape for the ultimate VCR replacement and activate a new TiVo service subscription at the event.

Yeah, that was earlier today – and I alerted folks to it in a post a few days ago, but TiVo finally put out the official press release today. From the reports I’ve seen, the event went well and TiVo gave out a few hundred free TiVos Of course, the main reason for doing this is the press coverage and marketing they get. :-)
