DirecTV has, so far, decided NOT to enable the USB ports and networking on their units. They license the software from TiVo and retain complete control over the features on their boxes, and they have, in their infinite wisdom, decided to screw over their users by denying them all of the network features of TiVo.There are hacks to enable the networking on the DirecTiVo, but there is no officially supported way to use the USB ports or put a DirecTiVo on a network. I can only recommend complaining to DirecTV, but they seem happy to ignore the requests for the features. My pet theory is that they know their forthcoming NDS DVR lacks those kind of advanced features, so they're deliberately crippling the TiVo units so the NDS units don't look as bad in comparison when they ship. This way they can act like the NDS units do as much, or more, when the truth is the TiVo units could do WAY more - but they don't allow it.

A while back TiVo and NetFlix announced they would be working together to bring broadband video rental to TiVo.

As for the DirecTiVo, I’m sorry to have to tell you that the problem is DirecTV.
