Blu-ray, HD DVD merger talks scrapped

The two, rival blue-laser optical storage formats, Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD, will not be coming together, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi admitted yesterday.

Well, looks like this means war.

    Suck.

I hope it’s a short war. As I’ve said before, I want to be able to purchase this stuff when it’s released and not worry about what format will win. I’ve got a nice new 720p projector that is thirsty for some HD content.

The PS3 uses Blu-ray. The PSP uses UMD, which is a unique format based on red laser DVD.
