If they made it possible for people to download and share their *own* content.  People would make exclusive, indpendently produced content that would ONLY be available on TiVos.  There are tons of budding independent content producers out there in the world, and more are jumping in all the time with cheaper digital production equipment, and nobody has captured them yet.
